Carménère

Original grape from Bordeaux, France.

Synonymes: Carmenelle, Grande Vidure, Carbouet.

This variety was identified in Chile in 1991.

It had been introduced from France in 1850 and had remained hidden joint to Merlot.

In difference to Cabernet Sauvignon, Carménère grows better on soils which retain water, as it tends to dehydrate, ideally on clay loams with few gravel and stones.

It characterizes by a deep violet red color and spicy aromas.

An herbal touch may indicate young wines. Its tannins are more friendly and soft than the ones of Cabernet Sauvignon.
