Cabernet Franc

Original grape from Bordeaux, France.

Synonymes: Bouchet or Gros Bouchet, Bouchy, Breton.

In general, Cabernet Franc is very similar to Cabernet Sauvignon, but buds and ripens at least a week later.

This delay allows the grape to grow in a colder climate than Cabernet Sauvignon would tolerate, e.g. in the Loire Valley.

Likewise Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, it is part of the family of Cabernets.

Cabernet Franc wines present less body and coloration than Cabernet Sauvignon, but they are more aromatic.
